Files that have a.JPG and.PNG extension are image files. They carry visual information, typically photographs, drawings, screenshots, or other forms of media.

On the other hand, JPGs (or sometimes JPEGs) are something different from PNGs. In a JPG, you have a file with lossy quality: that is to say, it loses some of its overall quality from compression on the image. You can specify how lossy your JPG gets as you create one. Generally speaking, the more quality in the image, the bigger the file size, so compressing an image can be very helpful in taking up less room on your hard drive.

Meanwhile, PNGs are lossless, which denotes they are not compressed. PNGs support transparency, which JPGs do not. Transparency lets you create empty pixels in specific image locations. Using PNGs, you can put one image on top of another, as there can be empty pixels. PNGs unfortunately do not support CMYK color spaces. Though, this is not so effective for printing.

Why do you have to convert JPG to PNG?
The biggest reason to convert JPG files to PNG is to create transparency support. If you have an image with a lot of white space that you'd like to remove in editing software, you won't be able to do it. JPGs must have color information within every pixel, so empty pixels are usually filled with black or white colors.

PNGs also don't get compressed. So if you're uploading a PNG to a service that compresses images, your PNG upload will look the same as it does on your computer. This can be helpful if you have a very special or specific image that you want to be preserved.

However, beware that if you intend to print the image someday, you do not want to convert JPG to PNG. This is because the information of CMYK is missing from PNG files. It can be quite problematic printing them out. We'd advise keeping the original JPG if you think you might want to print it someday.

How to convert PNG to JPG for free?
First, you need to upload a JPG file into our tool above. Hit the "UPLOAD FILES" button and find your JPG file(s) to get started. You can also drag and drop your files into the box that says "Drop Your Files Here". Just keep in mind, however, that you can only upload up to 20 files at one time.

Now that you have uploaded, you will see that our tool is converting the files in real-time. Upon completion, you can download each of them one at a time by just clicking the "DOWNLOAD" button beneath every image. If they are too many, however, you can save time by downloading all of them in ZIP format by clicking the "DOWNLOAD ALL" button.

If after uploading your files you still want to convert more, it is okay. You can repeat this process as many times you need it; however, be aware that you can only convert in batches of 20 at a time.

Once you have converted your files, you have an hour to download them. Download your files before this time is up because you will have to redo your conversion if you wait too long.

Is it safe to convert JPGs to PNGs?
It's completely safe to use our converter tool to change file types. Your original file stays exactly where it is on your phone, tablet, or computer, so you can go back to your original file at any time if your converted file does not work for you.

We also ensure that all the uploads and conversions are deleted by our server after one hour. This keeps your sensitive information safe. You never have to worry about your files staying on our server for more than one hour!
